Porto has started operating an efficient subway service which will take you in no time to your destination for relatively fair prices.
You can purchase metro tickets in many different locations but most of all at the Andante kiosk and shops. When traveling, you must validate your ticket at the entrance to the metro station.
Once you have validated the ticket (in an automatic ticket validation machine), you are allowed to use the subway for the extent of time specified by the zone you chose. So basically, buy a batch of tickets at the Andante kiosk and use at will.
