The Romantic Museum (Museu Romantico) |
The appeal of the Museu Romântico has plenty to do with the lovely Solar do Vinho do Porto bar that you can find on the ground floor.
This house, which used to be the residence of King Carlo Alberto of Sardinia, was turned into a Museum of the Romantics in 1972. Walking around the small museum, you can enjoy the river views and take a look at some traditional Portuguese furniture, ceramics etc. (The name does not refer to love and romance).
Before or after you tour of the museum, you should go to the Solar do Vinho do Porto. It's a lovely place that's operated by the Wine Industry of Porto. In the bar, you can sit and taste over 150 different kinds of Porto. Finally, the garden outside is delightful too, assuming the weather is good.
